Smarty installation steps on WAMP and XAMPP

This document assumes that your webserver and php5 is running.
1 Download Smarty - http://smarty.php.net
2 Installation – Windows, IIS/Apache, PHP5
3 Extract files, rename Smarty.x.x.x to smarty (suggest OUTSIDE of your www root!)
Example: d:\smarty
4 Run phpinfo.php to find out your php.ini location
5 Edit php.ini’s include_path and add the location of the libs folder.
example: include_path = “.;d:\smarty\libs”
6 Restart IIS/Apache
7 Setup these two folders INSIDE your www root:
(wwwroot)/smarty/templates (this is where your templates will go)
(wwwroot)/smarty/configs
8 Setup these two folders OUTSIDE of your www root:
d:/smarty/templates_c
d:/smarty/cache
9 Setup security settings for the webserver to write to these four folders

How To Install XAMPP in Support with PostgreSQL And phpPgAdmin

XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl, plus many additional modules. The whole package is well integrated and can save a lot of time and hassle for the inexperienced web developer. It's available on four platforms Windows, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris which gives a lot practical benefit to those who use it.

PostgreSQL is a well known database that may be more suitable for some tasks or workloads than others. phpPgAdmin is a web-based administration tool for PostgreSQL, exactly as phpMyAdmin for MySQL.

1. Install PostgreSQL and phpPgAdmin in Windows :

1.1 Install PostgreSQL
Assuming you have already download and installed XAMPP into c:\XAMPP, go and get the latest version of PostgreSQL for Windows. Download the version with the installer, not the one with only binaries.

Usually, it's a .zip package, extract it and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable vcredist_x86.exe first!

Now, double-click postgresql-8.3.msi, choose your install language, then have a look at installation notes as you may find useful info there.

Change the default install folder to c:\xampp\pgsql
The default install options in the following step are OK, but select everything you are unsure.

Enter a password for the user account "postgres" and leave everything as is in Service Configuration, then proceed to the next step. (You will need that password for future upgrades)

In Initialize Database Cluster:

Enable "Accept connections on all addresses, not just localhost" if you want.
Choose a different Encoding for both Server and Client (i.e: UTF8 for unicode support)
Enter a password for the DB administrator account "postgres".

Proceed as PL/pgsql is enabled by default in Procedural Langauges, then select Contrib Modules you want (select everything if you are unsure). Click on Install.

1.2 Install phpPgAdmin
Go and get the latest phpPgAdmin zip package and extract it into C:\xampp\phpPgAdmin\ . Make sure the files and folders extracted are in that folder, not within another sub-folder.

Then open "config.inc.php" found in C:\xampp\phpPgAdmin\conf\ and set "extra_login_security" to false

Now, open c:\xampp\php\php.ini and make sure "extension=php_pgsql.dll" is uncommented

Finally, open c:\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-xampp.conf and in section add

Alias /phppgadmin "c:/xampp/phpPgAdmin/"

AllowOverride AuthConfig
Order allow,deny
Allow from all

That's all, you can now access phpPgAdmin from your web browser with http://localhost/phppgadmin/

If you have deleted a web page or an image and it has been removed from the server and, the URL returns a 404 page not found error, then you can request Google to remove the page from their indexed cache. Remember the URL of the page to be removed must return a 404 error otherwise this tool will not work.

Use the URL removal tool to request that information be removed from Google Web Search and Image Search results. You can use this tool to request the following types of removals:

Remove outdated or missing webpages.
Remove information or images.
Report inappropriate content appearing in SafeSearch filtered results.

Google will investigate and provide an update on the status of your request as soon as possible. Removals that are processed through this tool are excluded form Google search results for six months.

Blogging tips

Locate the URL of the page you’d be like to be removed from Google’s search results.
Verify that the URL returns a 404 – not found error message.
If you don’t already have one, then set up a Google account and a Webmaster Tools account.
Sign into your Google account and go to this URL and follow the instructions

Regular expressions are nothing more than a sequence or pattern of characters itself. They provide the foundation for pattern-matching functionality.

Using regular expression you can search a particular string inside a another string, you can replace one string by another string and you can split a string into many chunks.

PHP offers functions specific to two sets of regular expression functions, each corresponding to a certain type of regular expression. You can use any of them based on your comfort.

1 POSIX Regular Expressions

2 PERL Style Regular Expressions

POSIX Regular Expressions:

The structure of a POSIX regular expression is not dissimilar to that of a typical arithmetic expression: various elements (operators) are combined to form more complex expressions.

The simplest regular expression is one that matches a single character, such as g, inside strings such as g, haggle, or bag.

Lets give explaination for few concepts being used in POSIX regular expression. After that we will introduce you wih regular expression related functions.

Brackets

Brackets ([]) have a special meaning when used in the context of regular expressions. They are used to find a range of characters.

Expression	Description
[0-9]	It matches any decimal digit from 0 through 9.
[a-z]	It matches any character from lowercase a through lowercase z.
[A-Z]	It matches any character from uppercase A through uppercase Z.
[a-Z]	It matches any character from lowercase a through uppercase Z.

The ranges shown above are general; you could also use the range [0-3] to match any decimal digit ranging from 0 through 3, or the range [b-v] to match any lowercase character ranging from b through v.

Quantifiers:

The frequency or position of bracketed character sequences and single characters can be denoted by a special character. Each pecial character having a specific connotation. The +, *, ?, {int. range}, and $ flags all follow a character sequence.

Expression	Description
p+	It matches any string containing at least one p.
p*	It matches any string containing zero or more p's.
p?	It matches any string containing zero or more p's. This is just an alternative way to use p*.
p{N}	It matches any string containing a sequence of N p's
p{2,3}	It matches any string containing a sequence of two or three p's.
p{2, }	It matches any string containing a sequence of at least two p's.
p$	It matches any string with p at the end of it.
^p	It matches any string with p at the beginning of it.

Examples:

Following examples will clear your concepts about matching chracters.

Expression	Description
[^a-zA-Z]	It matches any string not containing any of the characters ranging from a through z and A through Z.
p.p	It matches any string containing p, followed by any character, in turn followed by another p.
^.{2}$	It matches any string containing exactly two characters.
<b>(.*)</b>	It matches any string enclosed within <b> and </b>.
p(hp)*	It matches any string containing a p followed by zero or more instances of the sequence hp.

Predefined Character Ranges

For your programming convenience several predefined character ranges, also known as character classes, are available. Character classes specify an entire range of characters, for example, the alphabet or an integer set:

Expression	Description
[[:alpha:]]	It matches any string containing alphabetic characters aA through zZ.
[[:digit:]]	It matches any string containing numerical digits 0 through 9.
[[:alnum:]]	It matches any string containing alphanumeric characters aA through zZ and 0 through 9.
[[:space:]]	It matches any string containing a space.

PHP's Regexp POSIX Functions

PHP currently offers seven functions for searching strings using POSIX-style regular expressions:

ereg()	searches a string specified by string for a string specified by pattern, returning true if the pattern is found, and false otherwise.
ereg_replace()	searches for string specified by pattern and replaces pattern with replacement if found.
eregi()	searches throughout a string specified by pattern for a string specified by string. The search is not case sensitive.
eregi_replace()	operates exactly like ereg_replace(), except that the search for pattern in string is not case sensitive.
split()	will divide a string into various elements, the boundaries of each element based on the occurrence of pattern in string
spliti()	opoperates exactly in the same manner as its sibling split(), except that it is not case sensitive.
sql_regcase()	The sql_regcase() function can be thought of as a utility function, converting each character in the input parameter string into a bracketed expression containing two characters.

PERL Style Regular Expressions:

Perl-style regular expressions are similar to their POSIX counterparts. The POSIX syntax can be used almost interchangeably with the Perl-style regular expression functions. In fact, you can use any of the quantifiers introduced in the previous POSIX section.

Lets give explaination for few concepts being used in PERL regular expressions. After that we will introduce you wih regular expression related functions.

Metacharacters

A metacharacter is simply an alphabetical character preceded by a backslash that acts to give the combination a special meaning.

For instance, you can search for large money sums using the '\d' metacharacter: /([\d]+)000/, Here \d will search for any string of numerical character.

Following is the list of metacharacters which can be used in PERL Style Regular Expressions.

Character  Description
.              a single character
\s             a whitespace character (space, tab, newline)
\S             non-whitespace character
\d             a digit (0-9)
\D             a non-digit
\w             a word character (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, _)
\W             a non-word character
[aeiou]        matches a single character in the given set
[^aeiou]       matches a single character outside the given set
(foo|bar|baz)  matches any of the alternatives specified

Modifiers

Several modifiers are available that can make your work with regexps much easier, like case sensitivity, searching in multiple lines etc.

Modifier Description
i  Makes the match case insensitive
m  Specifies that if the string has newline or carriage
 return characters, the ^ and $ operators will now
 match against a newline boundary, instead of a
 string boundary
o  Evaluates the expression only once
s  Allows use of . to match a newline character
x  Allows you to use white space in the expression for clarity
g  Globally finds all matches
cg  Allows a search to continue even after a global match fails

PHP's Regexp PERL Compatible Functions

PHP offers following functions for searching strings using Perl-compatible regular expressions:

Function	Description
preg_match()	The preg_match() function searches string for pattern, returning true if pattern exists, and false otherwise.
preg_match_all()	The preg_match_all() function matches all occurrences of pattern in string.
preg_replace()	The preg_replace() function operates just like ereg_replace(), except that regular expressions can be used in the pattern and replacement input parameters.
preg_split()	The preg_split() function operates exactly like split(), except that regular expressions are accepted as input parameters for pattern.
preg_grep()	The preg_grep() function searches all elements of input_array, returning all elements matching the regexp pattern.
preg_ quote()	Quote regular expression characters

The function wp_reset_query() will unset $GLOBALS['wp_query'].

if using two or more costume query post in a particular section the first the query seems to stay active for the second loop. so to avoid this conflict use wp_reset_query() at the end of first loop.

How do I mirror another website?

Downloading a copy of an entire website ("mirroring") is a tricky business, because modern websites are so often built with PHP, ASP, CGI and other dynamic technologies that constantly update every page and often produce URLs that are only used once. And that can make the site appear infinitely large to website mirroring software.

Also, mirroring the web pages your browser sees on a site doesn't mean you'll get the "dynamic" behavior. if a website displays the current weather in Cleveland, mirroring the current pages will only get you a frozen "snapshot" of the weather on that particular day.

That said, though, there are tools available that will help you mirror basic websites that don't have these problems. The best-known of these is GNU wget, a free, open-source tool that can easily fetch an entire website with a single command. wget is not the friendliest tool in the world, but boy does it work!
Mirroring a website on Windows
If you are running Windows, I recommend Tech Knight's wget for Windows site. Tech Knight offers step-by-step instructions to download and use the wget software on Windows.
Mirroring a website on Linux
You almost certainly have wget already. Try wget --help at the command line. If you get an error message, install wget with your Linux distribution's package manager. Or fetch it from the official wget page and compile your own copy from source.

Once you have wget installed correctly, the command line to mirror a website is:

wget -m -k -K -E http://url/of/web/site

See man wget or wget --help | more for a detailed explanation of each option.

If this command seems to run forever, there may be parts of the site that generate an infinite series of different URLs. You can combat this in many ways, the simplest being to use the -l option to specify how many links "away" from the home page wget should travel. For instance, -l 3 will refuse to download pages more than three clicks away from the home page. You'll have to experiment with different values for -l. Consult man wget for additional workarounds.
Note: some web servers may be set up to "punish" users who download too much, too fast. If you're not careful, using tools like wget could get your IP address banned from the site. You can avoid this problem by using the -w option to specify a delay, in seconds, between page downloads. Usually, this will prevent the web server from viewing your behavior as unacceptable. But your mileage may vary!
Mirroring a website on MacOS X
Like Linux, MacOS X is a version of Unix. However, wget isn't standard equipment in all versions of MacOS X. If you receive an error message when you try the wget --help command at the MacOS X "Terminal" prompt, you can fetch wget from the TPJ site, which also offers "Simple wget," a user-friendly front end to wget. Most of the site is in Japanese, so some patience is necessary in picking your way through!

Of course, you can also install the developer tools from your MacOS X system CD (if you have not already done so) and then visit the official wget page to build and install wget from source code.

Once you have the command line version of wget for MacOS X installed, just follow my Linux instructions at the MacOS X Terminal prompt.
Offering Your Mirror To The World
Publicly mirroring someone else's website without their permission is a violation of copyright law. Don't do that.

If you have received their permission, it's easy to offer your mirror to the world. Just use the wget command to download it to a directory inside your own website's space. This is much easier if you have command line access to your own web server so that you can run wget there directly. But you can also upload the mirrored site to your server by dragging and dropping it to your usual file transfer program after wget is finished.

If you do offer a mirror of another site, make sure you link to the original and explain to users that this is a mirror and not the original. Also be sure to keep your mirror up to date. And once again, get the original site's permission first!

Over 3,000 projects and 220 million lines of source code shows the changing popularity of web scripting languages, specifically PHP.
One thing that we can readily see is the increasing dominance of PHP over the last several years:

It's clear that the web is being built with PHP. Measured purely by the number of new lines of code, PHP leaves all other web-scripting languages in the dust, and continues to grow. Quite simply, one-fifth of all open source code being written today is written in PHP.

This isn't much of a surprise. The top five most popular projects starting with MediaWiki, phpBB, and Coppermine -- are all written in PHP. The world is shifting away from rich client applications, and towards the web. PHP looks like the language of choice in this new world.
